Subconscious thoughts have a way of weaving themselves so tightly into the fabric of our lives that we can remain oblivious to their grip. I didn’t realize for years that the suffocating pressure I felt—the tightening in my chest, the acid reflux that wouldn’t relent, the shallow breaths—was the result of my own subconscious beliefs. Let’s talk about one of my biggest blind spots: money.
Money and its perceived scarcity have been a recurring shadow in my life, one that I am now deeply committed to dissolving. I didn’t grow up in poverty; we were middle class. We lived in nice homes, had food on the table, and even went on trips—mostly to visit family. I had what I needed, but underlying it all was a consistent undercurrent of “not enough.”
When I was young, my father worked incredibly hard, sacrificing time with the family to provide for us. His sacrifices painted money as something earned through hardship, separation, and anxiety. My requests for extras—a pony, swim team dues, or even school lunches—were met with “We can’t afford that.” These moments weren’t meant to hurt me; they were just the reality of our family’s situation. But as a child, I internalized a deep belief: money was scarce, never enough, and if I wanted something, I had to figure it out myself.
This belief grew into fierce independence—a blessing and a burden. It motivated me to take charge of my life, but it also chained me to an underlying fear of scarcity. That fear shows up even today. Just last month, when my husband handed a check to the wonderful man who cares for our yard, I felt it again. His fee had increased, and my chest tightened. My inner voice screamed, “That’s too much! We can’t afford this!”
There it was—the old conditioning, alive and well.
The Decision to Release
That day, I made a decision. I was done letting these subconscious lies rule my life. I was ready to release them, even though I knew it would require vigilance and practice.
I adopted a new mantra, gifted to me by my dear friend Zan: “I have plenty—more than enough. Money comes to me easily and frequently.” I repeat it daily, a truth I am committed to embodying. Although my financial situation hasn’t changed drastically (yet), my internal world has transformed.
I feel calm. The grip of worry has loosened. I trust that I have enough because I am enough.
Letting go of old patterns and beliefs isn’t for the faint of heart. Life has a way of testing us, and pushing us to prove our commitment to change. It isn’t always gentle, but I believe these challenges serve our growth, refining us for our next evolution phase.
What Patterns Are Holding You Back?
As I continue this journey of uncovering and releasing subconscious beliefs, I wonder: what patterns might be your blind spots? What limiting beliefs quietly shape your decisions and keep you from peace, abundance, or joy?
I’d love to hear your stories. Share with me the beliefs or patterns you’re working on releasing.. Perhaps I’ll have a tool, a mantra, or an insight to share that might help. My coaching clients know this about me- I want to help!
Together, we can support each other in creating lives that reflect our truest, most abundant selves.
Let’s connect, learn, and grow—one mindful moment at a time.
